I’ll be honest. I wasn’t seriously focused on getting fit until I hit 70. I am a breast cancer survivor, diabetic, and have had both hips replaced – including one revision. I was having some digestive distress, among other issues, including fatigue and fogginess. A friend is a Fundamental Nutrition Practitioner who was also a personal trainer. We started working together: modified my diet, including eliminating wheat products (not an easy job), cutting out processed food as much as possible, eating more protein and so on. That did the trick and my leaky gut healed itself, I was less tired, and my memory improved, and I was off my diabetes meds. I felt so good, I wanted to incorporate some fitness.
I started one class at Sunshine… Boxing and Barbells. I was so nervous going to the first class. What if everyone was younger (usually the case) and what if I couldn’t do it? But my dad was a boxer in the Navy and used to box with me when I was a kid. I needed to try.
The class was great. Better than I ever could have imagined. Everyone was welcoming and once you stepped foot in that gym you are considered part of their tribe. It was supportive and embracing.
I never looked back.
